Purpose:

The purpose of the mathematics placement exam is to place the student in an appropriate mathematics course so that with reasonable effort the student has a good chance of success.  There is no passing or failing of the exam.  Students should not try to be placed  in a course that is above their ability and too difficult or below their ability and a waste of time.
